The ability and commitment of staff is crucial in property management. Managing relationships between a number of individuals from tenants to maintenance contractors is crucial if good working relationships are to develop and all parties are to be satisfied. Staff must, for instance, be able to evaluate a situation and make a decision without becoming emotionally involved. This means being able to ‘see’ both sides and have the skills to handle a situation which could potentially result in an argument or stalemate.
They must also be able to convince a tenant, contractor or property owner/investor that the agent’s own actions are in an individual’s interests – even if, from the outset, it doesn’t appear that way.
These are skills that can be either learned through experience or taught through a number of courses available today.
